Senior IT Project Manager

Cape Town or Gauteng – National Role


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Governance

  • Stakeholder engagement and communication

  • Project Initiation and planning

  • Project Execution and monitoring

  • Project Risk and issues management

  • Project Resource management (internal and external resources)

  • Project Quality assurance

  • Project Change management

  • Project Budget management

  • Managing delivery / performance of external technology partners.

  • Documentation and reporting

  • Team collaboration, knowledge sharing and continual improvement


Minimum Requirements for the job:

Qualifications / Education


Minimum:

  • An under-graduate degree (qualification at NQF-7 level) in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field – a post-graduate degree is preferred.

Advantageous:

  • A post-graduate qualification in the above;

  • Industry-recognised certification in Project Management (e.g. PMP, AGILE DSDM etc.)


Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in an IT Project Management role in an enterprise (large, complex) IT environment leading both systems development and infrastructure projects.

  • At least 3 years in a senior/lead project management role, leading and mentoring junior project managers.

  • A proven track record of successfully delivering complex IT-related projects.

  • An understanding of how organisational change management supports successful project implementation would be advantageous.


Functional Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Waterfall and AGILE project management methodologies.

  • Thorough knowledge of the project management lifecycle and the software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.

  • Proficiency in establishing effective project governance and maintaining necessary project documentation / artifacts.

  • Proficiency in managing Project Resources, Budgets, Risks and Issues

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Project Management tools

Description:

The main purpose of the role is to effectively lead and oversee IT-related projects through their entire lifecycle using a combination of Waterfall and AGILE Project management methodologies, depending on the nature of the project. The Lead IT Project Manager will be required to lead a team of project leads and will be required to collaborate with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders  to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time, within budget, and with measurable value to the institution.
